Childproof lock on the hob: How to lock and unlock your hob

Doing daily chores at home is not without its hazards – especially for little children. Modern hobs have an electronic childproof lock to ensure the maximum level of safety in the kitchen and to reliably protect your children's hands from getting burnt. We will tell you how to switch these locks on and off and what other protective measures you can take on the hob.

How do I activate the childproof lock on my hob?

To activate the hob's integrated childproof lock, the appliance must be switched off. There are generally two options for locking a hob: a manual and an automatic childproof lock.

  • Manual: To switch on the lock, touch the bell or key symbol (depending on the model) on the control panel for approx. 4 seconds. Alternatively, use the menu to select the "Childproof lock" option and follow the instructions given there. The hob is locked as soon as the relevant indicator lights up (e.g. key symbol).
  • Alternatively, when using hobs with a TwistPad, you can simply remove the magnetic TwistPad from the hob and store it somewhere that's out of your children's reach – for example on the extractor hood.
  • Automatic: You can use the basic settings to activate the childproof lock permanently (to do so, change setting C1 to 1/activated). The hob must then be manually unlocked before each use. Once the appliance is switched off, it locks itself again. You can find out how to set up and deactivate this function again in the instruction manual for your model.

How can I unlock the hob again?

Press the relevant button for a few seconds again or go to the Childproof lock option in the menu and follow the instructions on unlocking. When the lock symbol indicator goes out, the appliance is activated once again.

On hobs with a TwistPad, simply put the TwistPad back in its magnetic position on the glass ceramic. The hob can now be operated again.

How do I child-proof my hob while cooking?

Accidents can also occur when cooking with the appliance switched on. Look away for a second and your child gets burnt on a hot pan or pulls a pot of boiling water off the stove. To prevent injuries or stop little fingers from making unwanted changes to the settings on your stove, you can make the hob inaccessible to children with hob safety guards. When purchasing such safety devices, check that they are suitable and approved for use with the model of your appliance.
